Sister in Christ,
I pray the first month of 2025 was off to a great start for you!
For me, things became rocky really fast. I was faced with many decisions and struggled to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You see, I can be very indecisive - planning a wedding proved that. Maybe I have a hard time making decisions because I've always felt like there was another way, and if we really think about it…there is another way. GOD'S WAY!
I'm sure you've had to make some tough decisions in your life, and if you're anything like me you know how tough decisions can consume you. I'm here to reassure you that we don't have to make decisions alone.
Proverbs 3:6 tells us, "In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” The key word is submit, which means to surrender one's will, desires, and authority.
We must fully surrender what we believe to be right for our lives and begin to submit to God's will. What we have planned for ourselves is nothing compared to what God has for us. Think of it this way, our way serves as a temporary fix but the Lord's way provides everlasting life.
When I look back over everything I've accomplished and every testimony that I have, I am so grateful that God was there every step of the way. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't always sunshine and rainbows, some days there was rain. And when it rained it poured. But the beautiful thing about rain is that rain washes the old away, and that rain then produces something new to grow. The rain taught me that if I could sustain this a little while longer then I would see the fruits of my labor. I would soon see all my prayers come to pass.
I've also learned the importance of timing. Even though I had certain timelines in my mind, God's timing will forever be the perfect time. He knows that we're impatient beings (at least I am) so He knows the more we wait the more frustrated we're going to be. We just have to have the faith enough to wait patiently and be confident in God's plan (Romans 8: 25 - But if we look forward to something we don't yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently). Once we've surrendered not only our plans but our timelines over to God the blessings will overflow.
I'm currently reading a devotional through the Bible App, ‘Making Decisions In Uncertainty’ by Amy Seiffert and I want to share with you a few questions from the devotional:
What are the risks in saying no? In saying yes?
Am I making a choice out of fear? If so, what am I afraid of?
Have I given this enough time and thought? Am I pulling the trigger needlessly, too early?
Does this bring me and my family closer to our long-term goals?
Am I overly focused on certain people’s opinions? Am I worried what they will think of my decision, either way?
Is God asking me to sacrifice something in this decision? Can I trust Him to provide for me if I make that sacrifice?
I encourage you to ask yourself those questions the next time you are faced with a decision. But also ask, “Does this glorify God?” Also remember this: God is Still Good. When things don't go as planned, God is Still Good. When “life-is-lifing," God is Still Good. When life feels absolutely amazing, God is Still Good.
In all your ways submit to him, and He will make your path straight sister in Christ.
You got this!
Scripture for Meditation:
Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
