Mental Health: Are You TRULY Okay?

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

This past Saturday was World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma. The objective is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

Mental Health, in my opinion, can be a very touchy subject. Talking about issues that bother us on a daily can be a difficult thing to do, because of the fear of being judged, fear of being called "crazy," or having the feeling that you're burdening others with your problems. It's not easy acknowledging that you are not 'okay' and expressing why you aren't okay, but we all must get to the point where we can comfortably verbalize our needs.

For a while, I would pretend like things were fine, but inside I was suffering, which led to acting out, constant attitudes, and lashing out on people. None of those things are healthy to do.

It's very important to SPEAK UP and verbalize the things that are bothering you. Your mind is such a powerful tool and our thoughts lead to most of our actions.

The scripture, Romans 12:2, is so dear to me because it changed and saved my life. When I stopped allowing the world to dictate my thoughts and started allowing God into my life I saw myself differently. I saw how valuable I was and how my presence in the world mattered.

I honestly believe if you transform your mind you can transform your life. It happened for me, and it can happen for you too!

While doing more research on mental health, I came across these tips:

  1. Track gratitude and achievement with a journal.

  2. Set up a getaway. (We all need a break sometimes)

  3. Be kind to someone.

  4. Do an activity you love. (Self-care)

  5. Detach from social media. (Mental break)

  6. LAUGH.

  7. Practice forgiveness.

  8. Spend some time in the sun.

  9. Spend time with loved ones.

  10. Smile. (You made it through)

Your mental health is so important! Speak to someone, take a break, and do what it takes to ensure that you are checking in with yourself regularly. Remember to take care of you!

Meditate on Romans 12: 2 - Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

Love you all!!
